The Product attribute extension add-on allows you to search by different types of attributes. Let’s review how to control which attribute types are searchable.
Product Attributes
Product attributes become searchable when the Product attributes checkbox is selected on the Parameters form:
When the Product attributes checkbox is selected the Hierarchy, Category filter on the search pane will lookup all product attributes hierarchies (Procurement categories, Commerce product hierarchy, Supplemental product categories, Channel navigation categories) and all product attributes will be available on the search pane:
The Default category hierarchy parameter is used to specify a default hierarchy that the Hierarchy, Category filter will use.
The Show unassigned attribute values parameter is used by the attribute filter to lookup attribute values that are not used by any product.
Engineering Attributes
Engineering attributes become searchable when the Engineering attributes checkbox is selected on the Parameters form:
When the Engineering attributes checkbox is selected the Hierarchy, Category filter on the search pane will lookup the Engineering product category details hierarchy and engineering attributes will be available on the search pane:
The Inactive versions parameter allows control of whether the inactive engineering version should be searchable.
The Effective date parameter allows filtering out all versions that are not active on the current date.
Note that it is possible to enable Product attributes and Engineering attributes simultaneously. In this case, the Hierarchy, Category filter on the search pane will lookup all product attributes hierarchies and engineering product category details hierarchy; product and engineering attributes will be available on the search pane.
Engineering attributes are saved per company. Sometimes, it is required to search across companies by engineering attributes.
For example, to search across all companies on the Products form, enable the Cross company checkbox: Parameters > Search by attributes > EcoResProductDetails form > Advanced > Query > Cross company:
Category Attributes
Category attributes become searchable when the Category attributes checkbox is selected on the Parameters form:
When the Category attributes checkbox is selected the Hierarchy, Category filter on the search pane will lookup all product attributes hierarchies (Procurement categories, Commerce product hierarchy, Supplemental product categories, Channel navigation categories) and all category attributes will be available on the search pane.
Note that it is possible to enable Product attributes, Engineering attributes, and Category attributes simultaneously.
Category attributes are related to a category, not to a product. That is why the category attributes are not shown on the Product attributes form.
